1. What do I do after I have registered my domain name?

a) You may choose to build a website for your domain name by yourself or hire a professional web designer. If the site is for your business, it is a good idea to have it created by a professional. For a personal or hobby website, most people simply build their own website using a web builder tool.

b) Once your site is built, you will need to find hosting services -- a computer to store your webpages on so your site can be accessible on the Internet.

c) If you are not thinking of building a site, you can use your domain for your own email address, such as you@yourdomain.com. You can set up both Post Office Protocol (POP) which allows you to read your email using email software such as Microsoft Outlook (TM) and web-based email which is accessible on the Internet like hotmail.com and mail.yahoomail.com.

2. What programs can I use to to build my own website?

You can use software programs such as Microsoft Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver to create your website. Or you may wish to use McWebuilder which has received high praise for its powerful but easy to use features. Click here to visit the McWeb website and download a FREE trial version of their software.

3. I would like to sell my domain name - how do I do that?

In order to sell your domain name, you must complete an Ownership Transfer Form and fax it back to us.

4. What is DNS?

The domain name system (DNS) is the system that allows domain names to be associated with IP addresses. For instance, when a domain name such as hotmail.com is entered into a web browser, the browser looks up the domain name, and locates the web page at the associated IP address such as 24.112.123.81.

5. What is domain parking?

Every domain name registered requires a minimum of two DNS servers. Domain parking allows you to use our servers as your Primary and Secondary DNS servers if you do not have hosting service for your domain set up. This is a free service offered by Namesonic.

6. How do I change the DNS or Contact Information for my domain name?

You can simply log on to your DomainManager™ or email us at dns@namesonic.com for dns changes or contactchanges@namesonic.com for contact changes.

7. Why doesn't my domain show up in the Whois search?

The reason your domain name may not show up in a Whois query is because the root servers have not finished updating the most recent domain name additions or DNS information. It may take up to 48 hours for the domain name to reflect in all Whois servers. If your domain is still not showing in the Whois after that time, please email us at support@namesonic.com.

8. I already have a web site at www.somedomain.com/~mysite -- can I point my domain to it?

Yes. You can point your domain to an existing website with the URL Forwarding service. This service allows you to redirect traffic from your domain name (www.yourdomain.com) to another web page address (www.somedomain.com/~yoursite) without having to setup a new web-hosting account for your domain name. You will be able to sign up for URL Forwarding for only US$10/year by clicking here.
