With the rapid growth and popularity of the internet, good domain names are becoming harder and harder to find. To alleviate this problem as well as to help organize the millions of websites on the web, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has approved seven new top-level extensions. The following domain extensions were approved on November 15, 2000: .INFO - intended for information-based services such as newspapers, libraries, informative bulletins or any sites intended for the purpose of providing information. Anyone is able to register this domain. Click here to register yours! .BIZ - intended for business and commercial-focused sites where the main purpose of the site is to facilitate the buying and selling of services and goods and or to promote the business itself. Click here to register yours! .NAME - a general purpose domain intended for individual and personal websites. Some examples include a site to showcase ones resume, interests or hobbies. Launch date: January 15, 2002 .PRO - intended for professions such as law, medicine, accounting etc. Domains will be registered as .law.pro, .med.pro, .cpa.pro. Launch date: TBA .COOP - a special purpose domain that will be restricted to cooperative applicants only. Launch date: January 30, 2002 .AERO - a special purpose extension that will be restricted to qualified applicants in the fields related to or in aviation. Applicants may include airport, airlines etc. Launch date: TBA .MUSEUM - a special purpose domain that will be restricted to museums only.
